1) If you really paid attention to what's going on you would know that immigration does not fit so neatly in left - right politics. Bush 2.0 never pushed for the measures such as mass deportations and strict limits on who could come into the US. Conversely, Obama has deported more people than Bush 2.0.
The reality is that many businesses (hardly the "left" rotten or otherwise) has favored a continuous stream of immigrants for work which many Americans are unwilling or even unable to do.
Maybe you know parents whose fondest dream is for their sons and daughters to work in large Central Valley farms owned by agribusinesses picking fruits and vegetables all day in the hot sun. I have never met anyone who wanted this for their children, but maybe that's the just a matter of the social circles in which I run.
2) Agriculture accounts for 80% of California's water usage, so you cannot attribute the state's water shortages to immigration. Perhaps its time for California growers to study Israeli agricultural irrigation practices.
