I remember the WWII leftover bomb shelters along Lakewood Blvd at the Long Beach plant.
And, it is my recollection that Boeing wing assemblies were still coming out of the El Segundo plant as late a the 2000's.
I even delivered box cars to Lockheed Burbank back in the mid 70's. Hot cars made you an extra days pay for going outside yard limits to deliver them. Now that site is a hotel by the Airport.
Space X and many others still exist, although much work in now engineering, cad design, and parts, not whole aircraft. I don't think that the evil CA "gubmint" had much to do with it. we built 100,000 planes a year in WWII. We probably just don't need that many anymore in the age of drones. And we taxpayers probably couldn't afford that many any more at a price of $350 million per plane....
