I don't what reality you've been living in, but all over the United States young professionals and older empty nesters are moving back to cities. In the Northeastern city where I live, rents are skyrocketing and the supply of decent homes is limited with sellers able to command their desired sales prices.
This trend has benefit public transit systems around the nation with increases in ridership.
