Yep, there are a hundred other alternatives, but how many of you actually know various modal loadings, line capacity, costs, or anything about the travel behavior, or trip segmentation, in Orange County?
This is yet another round in OCTA's never ending saga, over what to do about the traffic, now that they've permitted so much over development in certain parts of the county, without adequate infrastructure, that they will never see anything ever resembling free flow traffic in many areas ever again, even with automated driverless cars.
This outcome was based on 70 years of planning and land use that assumed complete auto dependence, but failed to fund or build the hundreds of extra lane miles to support that traffic, nor has ever really supported any seriously viable transit options, that might have required land use changes. And now all of these transit solutions (monorail, trolley, even efficient bus service) are going go be inherently costly and marginal, in that current universe? So what would you do next, instead?
Be careful what you ask for, you may get it......
