First of all, none of this involves Amtrak California. It would involve the Joint Powers Board who runs from San Francisco to GIlroy and would extend to Salinas. The commuters from Santa Cruz aren't going to go to Salinas to get on board, they will go to San Jose or to Watsonville. The commuters are not from Monterey but from Salinas, Soledad, Gonzales etc. If there were a connection at Watsonville for the people from Santa Cruz, that could work. There is already some pie in the sky thought about this. Right now the commutes leaving from Gilroy are pretty early and it probably would be wise to have another separate train based in Salinas to leave sort of the same time. But here we go---more trainsets, more crew, how many px to make it viable and how long to attract enough who are probably "out there' to make it viable??
