The steam engine that used to sit along Cannery Row is Pickering Lumber 3-truck Heisler number 1--it now belongs to PLA (Niles Canyon) and sits behind a fence along side the UP in Fremont. Not to be confused with number 5 (which PLA also owns), it's in very bad shape.
Also, I recall that the origional plans for implementing the Capitol Corrider route in 1991 called for three round trips a day to Monterey as part of the core system. Later (early 90s), they toyed with the idea of running from San Francisco to Monterey on weekends only. This caused a lot of conjecture about how they would run Amtrak (not Caltrain) crews out of SF for only a couple of days per week. Of course, it was all moot.
