Carol - I'm not sure what about my post indicated that I thought Amtrak was involved in the actual goings on (or non-goings-on) but I didn't think they were. Still, I stand by my post 100%, which is if Amtrak California created a new corridor (one with a fork in it) to hit Monterey and Santa Cruz, from San Francisco, it would be successful. Making the first run early enough to serve commuters would add to the corridor's success, but not be something that made the corridor viable in and of itself. I don't think the majority of riders on either a Santa Cruz or a Monterey train would be commuters/regulars. I think it would be more UC Santa Cruz students, tourists, folks visiting family, etc... the same sort of folk who are riding from LA to Santa Barbara. Charles
