Last San Rafael freight was August 1985. The new switches are very expensive not because the rail work itself but the signalling. The switches have to be plugged into the PTC system. 700K was how much Dutra paid for a switch which has yet to be installed.

What I'm hoping is that the LPG business left due to the fires. The fire did come right down the hill in east Sonoma. Hopefully the plan is to let a little time pass, and then get that business back to Schellville.

Let's hope the wild fires also show the need for rail infrastructure.

I would also like to see the future commencing of a garbage train as the landfills in Santa Rosa will soon be filled due to the huge unplanned fire debris input which has rapidly shortened the operating lifespan of those landfills.

The Cal Northern was trying to run a garbage train to Sonoma Co. and when that contract fell apart due to political machinations, Cal Northern pulled out of the NWP entirely.
