Speaking of the 1727...
One of the tidbits that came to light when I was researching what became my McCloud River Railroads book Signature published in late 2016 was that the Great Western Railroad Museum laid plans to remove the #1727 from its display stand in Dunsmuir and restore it to operation. SP gave the museum its blessings, but at the same time stated it could not be operated on SP rails, which really wasn't an issue at the time in as much as the museum planned to run it on their proposed excursions over the McCloud River. That would have been a sight to behold if it had ever gotten beyond the planning stages.
