Well, without getting out my notes, one part of the story I remember well is that the way to put the 1727 by the ball park was to tow her up the rails to Mott, and set her on a siding, with a "pit" dug out on the end for a highway trailer to line up with the tracks (until recently, this was all still in place--might still be, I haven't been up there in a while). It was then trucked down Highway 99 (now I-5) and turned off onto Park Avenue at the intersection just in front of our driveway. This oversized load required a permit from the Department of Highways (now known as Cal-Trans). That permission was not given! There is nothing in the documentation showing that the denial was ever reversed. I figure that being so far away from the officials, and with SP doing the moving, they just went ahead and did it.
