I don't buy it. SMART is selling the line that housing prices are to blame for the lack of a full commute service. SMART has a long history of misleading the public and should no longer receive the benefit of the doubt, in my book.
So, if the housing crisis isn't to blame, what else could be at play? SMART only ordered seven trainsets. They designed a system which requires six trainsets running on it to provide the promised half hour commute schedule. Can SMART run six trainsets at a time with only one backup trainset?
If they were to start running six trainsets, would they still be able to use the seventh trainset to make two three car trains?
Can all the maintenance on these trains be performed overnight without any need to remove any of them from service longer than 12 hours?
Think it through. At least start asking questions. Is the engineer shortage a special case of SMART being direct and truthful with the public? Or is it just another case of SMART misleading us even though they know better?
Remember the engine rebuilds and service start dates and the draft time tables and how SMART allowed the public to expect one thing which had been impossible for weeks or months or even years.
