The MILW had passenger cars in service in the 60s that had Waukesha motors on the under carriage. These motors made each car equipped a self contained unit in regards to heating and cooling.
The MILW also had EP brakes on all passerger equipment to the sixties as well. They were great as you could drop a train from 100 mph to a station stop in less then a mile.
Both these systems were, how shall we say, phased out due to lack of maintenance. The Waukeshas got to the point they wouldn't start or stay running. The EP brakes got to the point of being to dangerous to use, again lack of maintenance.
The MILW preferred the steam jet air and heating system that worked off the Vapor Clarkson steam generators on the locomotives. This was the reason that Amtrak did not take any MILW passenger cars.
