Thank you for that explanation, although I am bewildered by all of the initials and letter codes of the different systems. For many years I have wanted to find out more about electro-pneumatic brakes, but was never able to find any books or reference material about them.
I am very surprised to learn that they originated so early and had no idea that they were still in use into the 1960's. Did the original California Zephyr have them when it began in 1949? I have heard that in the early years of the C.Z., passengers COULD NOT FEEL when the train stopped and started. In the train's later years, I could EASILY FEEL the stops and starts.
