It certainly kept the TW-8 running on the Buttonwillow and yes I'm sure it had a similar effect
on the branches out of Fresno. It was amazing though how many held down mainline assignments ie
locals. The GP-9's were road power then and it was a while until they had enough for road switch
jobs. Dad was doing a winery filler application in '51 in Sanger and the local switcher was a
Consolidation and the Hauler was one of the Moguls. Not to mention that cab rides were a lot easier then. Running steam was primarily the function of a hoghead, watching the Yolo Shortline
S-12 handle twenty empties and fifteen loads in one string without slipping was pretty amazing
to watch.
