It's so predictable, the usual dubious information on any subject to do with SMART or NWP? This is a tunnel width that appears clearly to be more than adequate for both the train and bikeway. Reading the article and looking at the pictures causes me to think it's actually a pretty good use, and a pretty safe design, being barrier separated.

This segment may have been a tunnel that was DT? Christian or somebody like that could confirm it, or I could look it up on those posted NWP timetables on that SP site? And I think SP was promising DT in the days of the Bridge fight, and may have upgraded this tunnel? Although, I believe from my dim memory of the employee timetable for that segment, that NWP did have some single track bridges and tunnels back in NWP's mostly DT commute days?

Yes, it appears that there is clearly enough room for a trolley wire??? A teir 3 vehicle should not have any major ventilation issues with the proposed speeds and frequencies, to require or justify electrification?

It would appear to me that there's even room for a full standard bikeway by the width available, barrier separated and sealed. And, a completely safe segment of "sealed corridor" rail line will be running next to it.

This rail segment will have a completely sealed corridor railroad right of way. Yes, some idiot will figure out a way to get in and get themselves killed someday, there are fools and nutjobs enough to do that.

Occasionally airplanes fall out of the sky and land on people or things below them. There's always a chance, in any complex system that something may be beyond our control, we take reasonable precautions, and learn from things that go wrong, and fix them. And yet, we don't ban the "unsafe" airplanes??? It's always nice to do a reality check. Did you know that cars kill 6,000 or so pedestrians and cyclists, 44,000 other motorists, injure 600,000+ more, and it costs us all around $300,000,000,000 annually???? So, using the standard of nothing can ever be done, unless we can guarantee nothing will ever go wrong, let's ban the car as "unsafe", too?

This project will still be safer than driving your car anywhere, and perfectly safe for the other 99.9999% of us, not stupid enough stand in front of an oncoming train. Yes, and about a thousand or so times safer, than riding a bike on that bikeway, than on any street. It's really quite an innovative and very effective use of the existing facility.

It's a good thing the chronic naysayers in our complex world usually don't have to solve any of these "difficult" problems, or we'd all probably still be living in caves.
