Bus Transit use on long haul commutes is always dismal. Has always been, and always will be.
GM counted on it - and in fact, all'y'all actually did go out and buy cars, and gas, and tires - and more gas, and . . . . And then y'all spent trillions to build freeways to drive them on. All this, rather than use the buses? That trend continues, as you point out.
People do willingly ride trains though. At least that has been the experience all over the country in the last few decades; with most rail transit startups quickly gaining several times the ridership of the bus lines it replaces. That even happened at BART in the seventies in CC county - on the very first day even!
And that is the operative word here, "the bus lines it replaces". Costly GG Transit bus operations will get replaced by less expensive to operate trains. They may still be useful as feeder lines though.
BTW - How does someone come to know anything at all, about "the real world of transit", who in actual fact; has no real experience working in it; does not ever really use it; and worst of all, doesn't seem to even believe in it - in any real way.
How can anyone with no experience in something, nor belief, ever discover a damm thing real about anything?
Yes, biased Naysayers annoy me!
In the Real World --- Nothing of any value, in the past six thousand years, has ever been accomplished; by listening to naysayers!
