My guess is that about 10,000 people were using the miles of bike path next to the LOSSAN in Irvine this weekend, and there wasn't a single incident that I heard of with the dozens of high speed passenger trains each direction. As was the same case with hundreds of sections of bikeways that are next to rail lines all over America. It's amazing to me how many people are able to conjure up and magnify these virtually non existent imaginary threats, and yet ignore so many real threats?
I swear we had people who really lathered themselves up to believe that the Gold Line trains were going to leave the track and hunt down children like packs of wolves, and a few of the chronic naysayers on this project seem almost to imagine the same thing?
Thanks for the answer of the DT tunnel-it looked to be the case. And, that means there is clearance for a full standard-barrier separated bike way in the tunnel with the rail line. That design should be just fine, safe except for those who are crazy, and we can't do much more about them.
