The only reason I posted on this topic at all (with some trepidation, understanding how many railfans feel about this), was to try to suggest that, from my own experience, this really can be a very complex issue. And I would hope that REASONABLE people can differ in their viewpoints, and that should be OK.
Charles, I think our opinions are probably not so far apart, at the GLOBAL level.
But SOMETIMES, when you are involved with the painfully intimate details of a SPECIFIC incident, you find that it may NOT be as simple as the global generalizations would imply.
I don't know anything about the Fullerton incident, nor the terrain, nor the people. But I do know the details of at least one incident -- my son's -- where the specific details make me feel that it was NOT "RR ROW = private property = RIGHT" vs. "trespasser = stupid = WRONG".
I hope we can continue to both agree and disagree on different aspects of this question, as reasonable people.
