As usual, some of you people are grasping at straws in your usual opposition to any rail service of any kind for the North Coast. But anyone exercising even the slightest "critical thinking" can see that the case you're trying to build doesn't hold water. So instead, you try to build a mansion with match sticks!

Yes, these projects are nothing but match sticks, compared to the lumber needed even for a small house. Such projects as are described in these environmental reviews, are perpetual things on any railroad, highway, or indeed, any improved property known to man. They are all routine in nature (even replacing stolen copper has become routine). We can expect such activities to continue forever, especially after rail service has resumed - just the same as needed for any public infrastructure.

If we want to whine and throw blame about the cost, (1.5 mil just for bridge electricals); we should at least blame the real cause - copper thieves. But rather than whine, it might have been more useful to have taught our self-absorbed kids some actual human values, at least those related to respecting other people's property! - But I digress.

As for 3.5 mil or 5.5 million total cost - or even double that -- Big Fat Hairy Deal! To put this in real perspective; consider that 5.5 million would scarcely cover the cost for rehab/reconstruction of a city thoroughfare just a couple blocks long. Yet here, that same money is rehabbing nearly a hundred miles of rail, restoring it to minimally operable condition; which is just exactly what the state legislature commissioned and tasked the NCRA to do (facilitate rail service).

A minimally operable piece of track is essential to that duty. But if they really wanted to waste money, they would have fixed the track to higher than class 2 north of Windsor (speeds are presently limited to 25 mph by curves anyway), and class 3 south. But they are only going for class 1 and 2, respectfully. Hardly a waste!

Unless of course, you believe in general, that investments in rail alternatives to the highway, are by definition a waste.

You may be entitled to your negative opinions. But if you do believe that, why would you even bother to read a rail fan or employee forum at all. Perhaps you would be much happier and your posts more positive and upbeat, if you confined yourself to what you really believe in - such as a highway lobby forum.

Of course, maybe a politician with an ax to grind, would want to grind it on the heads of those most likely to be annoyed.

If the shoe fits . . . . .
