"Unless of course, you believe in general, that investments in rail alternatives to the highway, are by definition a waste."
No I don't that most are a waste, only ones that continually promise the world while never delivering anything
"If we want to whine and throw blame about the cost, (1.5 mil just for bridge electricals); we should at least blame the real cause - copper thieves. But rather than whine, it might have been more useful to have taught our self-absorbed kids some actual human values, at least those related to respecting other people's property! - But I digress."
Maybe you could actually read the information provided by the NCRA and see that the 1.5 million is to automate a manual bridge to "improve worker safety and reduce idling time". All I said was that maybe if they actually ran trains and had a reason to automate this bridge, then they could spend the money.
"As usual, some of you people are grasping at straws in your usual opposition to any rail service of any kind for the North Coast. But anyone exercising even the slightest "critical thinking" can see that the case you're trying to build doesn't hold water. So instead, you try to build a mansion with match sticks!"
If the more of the people promoting the NCRA used the "slightest critical thinking" they would see that it has no chance of ever being successful. I think that nearly everyone who reads this board would love to see trains running to Eureka, the more the better, it's just that some are realistic and others are not. If this railroad really had the potential that we keep hearing about from the pro side, there would be people lined up to operate it - using their OWN MONEY.
"As for 3.5 mil or 5.5 million total cost - or even double that -- Big Fat Hairy Deal!"
Why is it that any amount of money is never a big deal when it's not coming out of the pocket of the person spending it?
