Well, Freddie, if the discussion board really causes as much grief for David as he claims it does, then maybe he
should shut it down, eh? It's purpose is to be an advertising tool for his timetable busines, not because of some benevolence to the railbuff community. I know, I know. It's
his web site and he can do what he wants with it, but he's said in the past that he has no time or interest to moderate it (although he apparently OK with spending time to track down IP info instead of simply asking the "offender" to contact him), yet he's rejected suggestions and offers of help from others. So, go figure.
Likewise for his timetable business. If the lack of respose for information from railbuffs and shortline owners is such a problem, why continue?
Maybe you guys don't realize it, but there are other railbuff discussion boards out there in Internetland, so you won't be left high 'n dry when this one finally bites the proverbial dust. Do you know about altamontpass.org? It's virtually the same as this one, and is waiting in the wings to take over once this one becomes history. There are other sites out there, too.
Personally, I'll kinda miss this place, but I'll wager it's not for the same reasons as most of you guys. What I find so entertaining (and often amuzing) about this site is how some of you guys tend to go off the deep end over such unimportant and trivial things. For example, someone sent me an email a link to this post
. . .
[
www.altamontpress.com]
. . . and asked me if I thought it was really made by the person identified as such, since he's more wellknown for his long-winded posts than for throwing a whoopie fit. Hard to tell for sure, since it's possible for anyone to post fake messages here using someone else's ID - something that could be easily fixed, but hasn't. Anyway, I replied that I didn't know, but that I got quite a kick out of reading it. Almost as much as when "Timmy" posts a "question."
As always, I look forward to reading your responses.
