Steve
Of all the people that I"ve ever ridden with, I'd put Pete McGovern right at the top of
the list. He was the consummate professional in all respects. Ironically, I was driving
right by here exactly 10 years later on my honeymoon and saw the Hillcrest Climax 10 sitting
outside the C-Z shops. It was late in the afternoon, but I asked my new bride if she'd like
to see the engine that I used to ride on with Harry Wright. Well, we wandered inside
the enginehouse & found the Alco idling and there was Pete. Turns out that someone had
reported a possible fire out at the big bridge over the Nanaimo River & he was going out
there light engine to check it out so we got a ride. He hadn't changed a bit and even
offered to spot the engine on Haslam Creek trestle so I could get a photo.
There was no fire that day.
