I've worked with several diabetics in my long career, about half insisted that no one know about their problem because they didn't want to be treated any different than anybody else. One of those ended up in jail when he had a reaction just as this one, he beat the crap out of two cops until he finally passed out. Because it turned out he was diabetic he was not charged, but was court ordered to wear a medic alert braclet. Another co-worker and model railroader takes the opposite approach, he not only takes obsessive care of himself, but when he travels, he informs the conductor or stewardess first thing and describes his symptoms---saved his butt once on Amtrak when he had a bad batch of medication that was ineffective, and he began to have a bad reaction, the conductor called ahead to the next station and EMTs were waiting, gave him a shot and spare meds, and didn't even delay the train. (This man also made certain everyone in the model railroad club knew of his condition and what to do). Current privacy laws prohibit people--other than the person themselves--from sharing medical information and since this law was passed, several school children have died in recent years, mainly on buses and field trips, but in class too, from medical conditions no one was allowed to know about (and the parents didn't want their children treated differently). Sometimes sharing information can be critical to your own life.
