Agree totally...what's the big need for a bunch more VHF and UHF frequencies that provide marginal performance and risk lives. Look around at businesses and such with a tower or pole next to their building with a VHF antenna...bet they don't even have a base station connected any more. Joe the Plumber or Eric the Electrician went to cell phones long ago and if not, faced with replacing all their equipment that won't comply with the narrow banding, will certainly do so now!
Railroads need a completely DEPENDABLE system...not a bunch more frequencies that have to use PL or DPL to mask out the interference.
Because of this crap, after 2013 we can no longer use the Motorola SPECTRA mobiles and clean cab radios, unless we are fortunate enough to find some of the ASTRO models which ARE narrowbandable.
As a result, the most dependable and versatile radios ever made are now boat anchors. Think of the ties a short line could install if we didn't have to yield to this bureaucratic bullshit!
A bunch of money WASTED that could be MUCH better utilized.
We're from the Government...we're here to HELP you (go broke)!
