Douglas - the great old AA Carferries billboard you mention is now gone. I was there in July this year. Over the years I took photos of it - as a sharp, attractive sign and then as it weathered over the decades. It lasted until at least 2005; not sure when it came down but I last saw it then. Really a unique piece of history, with the wonderful bear image. Too bad it's all gone now. I have two photos of this billboard sign showing the differences of the decades in my 2005 book, "The Ann Arbor Railroad," from Arcadia Publishing. There is a photo of the sign in 1977 by the great Dennis Schmidt, and a shot I took 15 years later in 1992 to show the weathering. Always loved that sign and looked for it.
