Government can't run railroads because they can't stay focused long enough(yes some are good but most are bad). When problems arise they don't get fixed because someone has to lobby for the money=, and That takes years. NWP and Amtrak are good examples. NWP took 10 years between lawsuits and begging for money. Amtraks goals change with every new president. Once had a huge backlog of wrecked equipment all caused by our government.
This day in age with the SCC political atmoshere the way it is. The Santa Cruz branch has a small chance in hell of surviving.
