Great idea to "get the trucking company" but get what? Most of these guys operate on less than a shoestring. Leased or rented equipment and no physical assets as well as incorporated so the actual owners can avoid monetary responsibility. Probably another layer of non-responsibility in a secondary lease to the driver. His assets are probably no more than a beat up fifteen year old pick-up.

The California PUC ceeded responsibilty for commercial trucking (except household goods) to the DMV and the California Highway Patrol years ago and the DOT has no authority over intrastate haulers.
