It sounds like in this case (single track--gantlet track--single track) the switches or switch points are retained and the frogs are avoided. Not much of a savings since switch points are far more expense and maintenance than frogs. In cases of double track gantlets (double track--gantlet--double track) the points are eliminated and the frogs retained.
