Wow! That was a rant?? Actually it was a well thought out, reasoned explanation of the the problem in California. I own timberland in California. The majority of our land is under a Non-Industrial Timber Management Plan so we do not have to have a Timber Harvest Plan written each time we log. However we have parcels that are not in the NTMP and the hoops that have to be gone through are ridiculous. We have had THP's rejected because the type on a map was 1/32" too small. Another was rejected because in a section regarding erosion control, the THP referred "follow Section XXX of the Forest Practice Act" rather than copying and pasting the section. They look for every little Chickens**t reason to reject. Add in additional logging costs because of California fuel prices, Air Resources Board rules for truck and equipment engines, etc, etc, etc. We are currently dividing up all possible parcels and selling out. Its just not worth the hassle. Soper-Wheeler, which is a first rate, sustainable timber company is planting Redwood in New Zealand because of the growing regulations in California.
