Yes Eucalyptus is a huge source of pulp fiber around the world. I had a meeting with some Brazilian foresters a little over a month ago who were up here to see how we do things. They were commenting how they had a brand new pulp mill coming on line in there area and it was going to run off Eucalyptus plantations. I was impressed by the size of the operation. The mill will run on 350,000 acres of Eucalyptus plantation planted in perfect rows and harvested every 7 years! The pulp mill will consume 900 truckloads per day! They have to pick up the logs within 3 days of being cut or else they loose them in the resprouts from the stumps. Plantations like these make it hard for our domestic fine paper mills to compete in the global market place. You sometimes see paper goods marketed under the brand name Tencel. This is Brazilian Eucalyptus pulp.
