Unlike some of you, my experience suggests that being watched, and potentially being held accountable for ones actions, does indeed have an effect on human behavior. And, we even have vast reams of scientific studies by psychologist's that that folks do indeed behave differently when being observed, or when their actions are being recorded, than when they aren't.

So some of you are flat out wrong about inward facing cameras not being at least partially effective in reducing the probability of such accidents. And, we will no longer be uncertain of actions which lead up to accidents, even exonerating crews, if they acted correctly.

Some folks probably didn't like peeing in the bottle either, as it violated their "privacy". But, I watched drug and alcohol use on duty drop by about 90% after the "threat" of random and post accident testing was mandated. And, if we are going to leave the human in the loop, we are going to have inward facing cameras, and that's already been decided.

Zark, you are just nostalgic for the days when we had that feeling of freedom and autonomy we used to have as engineers, before these screw ups like Gates and Sanchez, not to mention the yoU Took Us (UTU), and the equally useless Big E, ruined the job.

Well I miss those days, too. But, it's really hard to explain that "freedom" we used to have, to the families of the dead passengers.... or to the public that supports and uses our passenger trains.
