Max, the problem is the merchants who don't want to lose any parking and the very high level of auto traffic on Geary. Trolley buses can maintain the existing lane arrangement but remove the noise and pollution of diesel and the tunnel will significantly speed up service. Market St. can be crossed at the mezzanine level at 3rd & Kearney - this was where the ill-fated Central Subway was supposed to be routed but is now available to a Geary line.

Of course streetcars would be preferable but instead the "gnomes" want a BART subway so they can Manhattanize the Richmond district. Picture highrise hovels replacing existing homes. Just enough air to last the nite. San Francisco used to be magical not it is just SF.
