OK so I went and did some snooping today. The BNSF did in fact derail a unit grain train on the Lacey spur. Evidently they have been staging trains there waiting for space in Tacoma. They used to use the siding at Titlow for that ( and Bucoda,) but evidently they want to leave the power on the trains or something as you can't rescue the crew from Titlow.

As to that line, its part of the original Greys Harbor line. Before the Point Defiance cutoff, the line took off in Lakewood and runs along I5 through the base. THe Point defiance line used its alignmend from Nisqually to St Clair where it continued south. The line went through Lacey, and is now a bike path from downtown lacey, to Watershed Park in Olympia where the line crossed I5 and wound down around Capitol Lake, up the grade through Belmore and on to Gate and Grey's Harbor.

In the NP and early BN days, there were two trains that went to Hoquiam. One came from Tacoma and came via Lacey and Olympia, the other went to Wishram on the current PSAP alignment. After I5 was widened through Olympia the line was severed. The BN Oly turn out of Tacoma serviced the industries in Lacey. The line was cut back to Quadlock ( IP Box Plant) in the 2000's after the city of lacey wanted a bunch of round abouts, so the Georgia Pacific box plant lost service.

After TR took over the Oly turn 10 years ago or so, they were servicing Quadlock a couple times a week as needed. Now that TR is out and PSAP's division is running the Oly line, BN is back to servicing Lacey with a crew called out of Tacoma. The Lacey line is EX NP. The current line to Olympia from East Olympia to the Port of Olympia is UP, leased to PSAP.
