The UP built that line after the point defiance line was built to gain access to Olympia (Having had trackage rights on the NP prarie line already to Tacoma then the MILW to Seattle but no service to Olympia). The line is on part of a survey UP completed prior to the point defiance line which would have given them their own alignment from North Portland all the way to Seattle. The only portion built was East Olympia to Olympia.
