An elevated loop directly to the ferry terminal with an escalator down to the ferry would be the best option. It would not hold up traffic at the road crossing and would take far fewer parking spaces. The GGBD even bought the land many years ago to make it happen. I think building the SMART station 4/10ths of a mile away from the ferry terminal is biggest design flaw of the whole system.
I also think a ferry slip with a direct transfer train to ferry could be built on the downstream east approach of Black Point bridge.Run high speed directly to SF and bypass San Rafael, Larkspur.
