It's done all over the world, it would probably cost about 50-100 million (without too much outright theft of public funds) and would make for a truly convenient multimodal connection and add connections to the City for personal trips and tourism, both directions. But, as I have fallowed this sorry saga, I wonder if the current Board and Management at SMART are all that SMART about these things.
I can't wait to ride SMART, but there have been soooo many weird problems and soooo many "justifications" (aka lame excuses...?) for significant delays due to problems caused by some very poor planning and/or even poorer execution..... So, what should be an easy and doable connection to the ferry, easily done all over the world, seems like an almost insurmountable challenge here.......
No need to add the expense of a loop, since these trains change ends, it could use a simple 2 track elevated stub station. We are talking about just a little over a quarter mile of skyway, over mostly existing public ROW, and a god damned public parking lot at the terminal, right.....? What is so damned hard about that, compared to what we're wasting on a quarter mile of the current 22 miles of the CHSRA fiasco....?
