Last time I checked this was 2010 not 1910 and employment law has progressed to the point where unions are obsolete. They increase cost that is passed on to others further lessening the purchasing power of the dollar. Unions artificially decrease employment demand and constrain innovation. Thank unions for sending all out jobs to 3rd world countries, not right winger business interests. Thank unions for ruining the american automobile business and generally stifling innovation in general. I work for a proud non union family owned business and I receive a fair wage, fair treatment and the luxury of a flexible workplace unhindered by strangling union rules. Unions are not required for a safe and productive workplace. A safe atmosphere comes from insightful and intelligent management who see the value of a workplace that does not jeopardize its employees or outsiders. Management hindered by collective bargaining may in fact be unable to further heighten safety by innovation due to leaden union contracts.
Unions shelter weak performers from demotions or discipline they should be due, and hinder strong performers from receiving rewards and accolades they deserve. Steve Jobs or Bill Gates did not need a union to succeed. Each employee or worker should be their own entrepreneur free to fail or succeed as their performance merits and should not be bolstered by absurd unions that further abdicate personal responsibility beyond what frivolous legal suits and wealth hating neo-communists already have.
