Unions have done a lot of good for employees over the years. I'm enjoying a union pensiom. However the 40-hour work week was not created by unions. It was created by the NRA (no, not that NRA but by the National Recovery Administration, a Roosevelt New Deal program that was declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court in 1935). But the 40-hour work week and overtime pay for work over 40 hours lived on.
