I was the one who shot and posted the YOUTUBE video of the Granite Lake site.
I was also at the NPRHA convention in Spokane and did enjoy Bill Kubler and his presentation. Not only was his findings very interesting and factual, but it did also show a pattern of craziness in the engineer who died. There was proof that this guy would and could break the time record to Spokane. And other than the one curve at Granite Lake nothing would have stopped him.
As far as some of the posts earlier talking about conpiracy this and cover up that...I know the railroads are not always the most honest group when it comes to explaining "why". However, I have been to the accident site 2 times now and there is no way a train or anything for that matter could have made that corner going that fast. Also what Bill K said was that the train "left the track". No skid marks were made on the roadbead by anything other than the cars coming to a stop. The engines hit the hillside and slid/flew into the lake. Bad track would have put the engines on the ground first followed by tumbling, flipping, fireballs etc...there was none of that. Intact engines stuck in the mudd caused by speed, sharp corners and flying trains! ! !
I don't know how much superelevation was in the curve but apparently now enough.
