I first met Dick at Orange Empire Railway Museum in October 1981. I was 11 years old at the time. I had stepped up next to the mainline to take a picture with my 126 MM flim camera. My step-dad had noticed Dick taking a picture my direction and yelled at me to get out of Dick's way. Dick told my step-dad to relax as he indeed wanted me in the picture intentionally. He then asked me to do various poses for him, and I gladly did. In March 1998 at Winterail, I saw Dick and asked him if he remembered me and the pictures and he said he did. I week later, he sent me a proof sheet of those pictures. Can you believe it, I was just looking at those pictures yesterday! Now I hear of his passing, however, I knew about his illness, I knew it wouldn't be long. My grandmother had it in the early 1980s and I, unfortunately, got to see first hand from start to finish over a period of a couple of years, what it does and it is extremely hard on immediate family members. Thanks for the special memories,
R.I.P. Dick.
P.S. Norman Kirk (UP Manager in the Harriman Dispatch Center, Omaha) would be very proud of you.
