Glen Icanberry said it best. Richard Steinheimer's work will last forever. I met Stein once, several years ago, at Winterail when he signed a book I was purchasing for our historical railroad library in Santa Clara. Just late in 2009, I exchanged several e-mails with Shirley Burman after I asked to receive and use a night photo Dick had made in SLO in the 1950s of the SP Starlight. I wanted to use it in an article I was writing about the "(SP) Starlight to (Amtrak) Coast Starlight" history. Shrley was most helpful, actually sent me a couple of Dick's photos, and even "improved" the one I wanted, I presume with Adobe PhotoShop. She was truly a blessing to deal with. But you could tell how much she missed talking to Dick, as he was slowly passing away, and was unable to speak to her. She relished in several audio recordings she had of Dick's voice on tape. You could tell, even in the words of an e-mail, how much she loved her beloved Dick Steinheimer. Dick, may you Rest in Peace. And Shirley, to you and a greatly extended family, my heartfelt condolences.
