Dick was a true gentleman in all senses of the word.
The world is a poorer place now that he is not in it with
his infectious grin and enthusiasm about railroading.

I am fortunate enough to know both Dick and his
lovely and talented wife, Shirley. They are two of my
most favorite people. i miss Dick a lot already, as I
know many people do.

(He was kind enough to tell me once, when I showed
him a photo I had taken of the SP 4449 in the West
oakland Diesel Shop, "That should be in a book!" Wow!
Man, that made my year -- if not my whole life! Wow.)

My prayers and thoughts are with Shirley and the family
and his many friends at this most difficult time.

R.I.P., Stein!
