If you want to incorporate an Amtrak ride into your plans, consider riding a Capitols train to Roseville. The depot there is located at the East End of the yard, right next to the East Valley Wye. Any train headed to / from Donner Pass, and trains to / from Dunsmuir & Feather River Cyn., will roll by the depot.
