Three years ago, I was traveled to San Francisco for a professional meeting. I arrived a couple of days early to take in the the City. I thought about celebrating the 60th anniversary of the California Zephyr, by riding the Altamont Commuter Express from San Jose to Stockton and then transferring to an Amtrak San Joaquin. Unfortunately, I could not find a convenient transit connection to get from the ACE station to the Amtrak station. The two stations appear to be within walking distance of each other, but when I called ACE customer information, the representative advised me against doing walking between the two stations. So I wound up not doing the trip. A real shame because the ACE and Amtrak schedules worked so I could do this.
Now I read the back and forth about Stockton and wonder if I made a mistake by not doing this trip.
As a resident of an Eastern city, I hear very negative comments which are mostly untrue. Thus, I wonder how many comments about Stockton are based on fear vs. being in situations where genuine threats existed.
