I might add that it costs nothing to make your way through the panhandlers and discarded hamburger wrappers to enter a McDonald's, while the passenger stepping into the restaurant car has already paid considerable to get on the train. If you can calculate how many passengers at the margin decide to take the trip because there is food aboard, the revenue from their tickets should rightly be added to the revenue from their choice of meal.
