Re: Amtrak: Throw Dubious Accounting of Cost Under the Train

This is an old article, again rehashed. The Jack-Off Mina from Florida loves this stuff, but I don't see him getting rid of costly things people need in order to function in his so-called 'line of work'. Case in point: In Mina's office building, get rid of all these expensive things which add to "overhead" that aren't an absolute requirement to get the job done: Bathrooms, elevators, air conditioning, parking lots, exterior lighting, janitors, landscaping and the care of...what else?
Yep, you don't need to have a dining car to move people, true. But you don't need all those things listed above to be a lawmaker/politician either. Yet, people expect these things, don't they. So, what do we do? Amtrak once tried out a Subway sandwich franchise, and it failed. They also tried 24-hour dining, with an overlapped work shift which cut staff, and added the hours food was available. That didn't work either.
Amtrak also tried perishable merchandise as a way to generate revenue. Even though UPRR litigated this and lost, Amtrak still had a failure in the long run.
Anyone for some plausible, constructive suggestions? I don't have any.
