Sorry I didn't say what I meant: too bad some transit
systems in the US didn't buy X2000 equipment --
active tilting, instead of "passive pendulation". I rode the
demo trip with the Talgo equipment back in 1994,
in northern CA (a loop trip, Oakland-Sacramento
(via the old SP "Cal-P") and return via the old SP
San Joaquin Valley Line. I remember the Talgo car
I was in swaying a lot every time we went over any
track where there was even the tiniest imperfection
(bump, etc.). On the return, the staff was very
apolgetic, and told my son and I that they were sorry,
but we had to ride in the SP coach, as there was no
room in the Talgo cars for us. I didn't mind at ALL!
because I liked the SP equipment MUCH better than
the Talgo cars (more attractive and rode much better)
The SP streamline-era (1950s) cars rode SUPER-SMOOTH!!
They used the "French Quarter" SP lounge, too.
The Talgos had very poor ride quality -- teh track needs
to be perfectly maintained, or the cars will sway a lot,
which is rather annoying.
By the way, I am well aware that neither of these tilt
trains are currently used for long-distance trips, so there
are no sleepers or full diners on them. And I never meant
that I ever thought that Superliners (or any other double-deck
equipment) would be able to handle the tilt that the single-
level Talgos or X2000 equipment routinely manage easily.
