Copper concentrate is produced by Robinson Nevada Copper Mining in Ely, Nevada. The concentrate is hauled by truck to Wendover to a truck-to-rail transfer facility. The train then runs to a rail-to-ship export facility in Vancouver. The concentrate is then shipped overseas to a copper smelter the mine has contracted with.
The mine is formerly known as the Kennecott Nevada Copper Mine and the BHP Nevada Copper mine at Ruth, NV. Copper ore was formerly processed at the Kennecott copper smelter northeast of Ely before it was shutdown and dismantled years ago. Subsequently, BHP utilized the Nevada Northern railroad line to ship concentrate to (I believe) the San Manuel, Arizona copper smelter.
