I haven't seen a working UP GP38-2 in this region in ages. My guess there is a some policy against using normally aspirated units due to the increased fire danger from their use.

There used to be a whole fleet of GP38-2 working out of Nampa and La Grande. All the SW Idaho locals had them (Cascade, Emmet, Council, Wilder) plus they shared switching duties with SW10s. La Grande had a pair for the Joseph, and one or two more for Elgin and switching.

Of course this was 20 years ago and much of the traffic is gone with the branches sold off or pulled up.
