The climate *has* changed before, and in several cases in the fossil and even historic record the changes caused or contributed to large-scale, if at times local to a continent or large region, die-offs or migrations of species including humans. The current pattern seems likely to result in another one of those, perhaps having an effect even within our childrens' or grandchildrens' lifetimes. IMO (there's that word again - opinion), if there's a reasonable chance that human activity contributes to changes that are adverse to civilization as we know it or even long-term human survival, it's worth doing what's reasonable and feasible to mitigate that, and otherwise figure out how best to adapt. Others need not agree, and many do not if they think about it at all, though I find it interesting that the Military is treating the observable and predictable effects of climate change as something that needs to have a response planned for - as an internal defense planning matter not as politics.
Anyway ... again ... the dig was at those who have enough money to take care of themselves regardless of what happens, getting together to talk (among other things) about global warming, probably to get some agreement on how they will protect themselves and their income streams, and doing it with a fleet of private jets. The optics could be better ...
